Anne Arundel schools should encourage student activism

Students at five or more Anne Arundel County high schools plan to take part Wednesday morning in a national walkout intended to honor the victims of the Feb. 17 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. This puts schools Superintendent George Arlotto and principals at the schools — Annapolis, Broadneck, Northeast, Severna Park and Old Mill, at least — in something of a pickle, looking for ways to encourage student activism while dealing with concerns about discipline, safety and political backlash. (Capital)
