Washington County school board policies on controversial issues, student retention approved

The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday formally approved policy updates concerning teaching controversial issues and the advancement and retention of students. The policy about teaching controversial issues was passed 5-0. Board members Jacqueline Fischer and Stan Stouffer were absent. Board member Wayne Ridenour, who previously expressed vague concerns about the possible narrow focus of the policy, said he would still support passing the policy, with some reservations.
