Howard County Schools Holding First Redistricting Hearing Tonight

Tonight is the first of three public hearings on a Howard County Public Schools redistricting plan. Howard County School officials are considering moving more than 7,000 students to different schools, saying they want to reduce overcrowding and balance the poverty rate among those schools. In introducing the proposal last month, Superintendent Michael Martirano said that it is necessary because Howard County is the fastest-growing county in the state, and there's an urgent need to reduce overcrowding and balance the poverty rate among all schools in the district.
