Biden administration puts Johnson & Johnson in charge of Emergent’s Baltimore vaccine facility

April 6, 2021

The Biden administration has placed Johnson & Johnson Inc. in charge of Covid-19 vaccine manufacturing at a Baltimore facility belonging to Emergent BioSolutions Inc. following a snafu where as many as 15 million vaccine doses were ruined as a result of human error. Emergent (NYSE: EBS), which is headquartered in Gaithersburg, is a manufacturing partner for both Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) and AstraZeneca PLC (NASDAQ: AZN) on Covid vaccines. It was revealed last week Emergent mixed up ingredients for the two vaccines, which were both being manufactured at the Baltimore facility.
