Now that Gov. Larry Hogan has signed into law a sweeping $1 billion relief package passed by the General Assembly, thousands of small businesses can receive credits for sales and use taxes for the next three months. The primary focus of the bipartisan “Recovery for the Economy, Livelihoods, Industries, Entrepreneurs, and Families (RELIEF) Act” is to provide direct aid to low-income individuals and families. However, the law also provides tax breaks and other assistance for small businesses to help them survive the Covid-19 pandemic.
