Land-use change helps pave the way for 68-acre housing and commercial development in Smithsburg

Town officials Tuesday night approved a land-use change that helps pave the way for a planned 68-acre development that calls for homes, a convenience store, pharmacy, daycare center, apartments and restaurants. Authorities have been studying issues surrounding the planned development near the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Foxville Road for years. Tuesday night, Smithsburg Town Council members approved an amendment to the town’s zoning map that creates a “floating zone” over the site.
