Maryland reports 925 newly confirmed coronavirus cases, 19 new deaths

A novel coronavirus, named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China in 2019. The illness caused by this virus has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Maryland health officials reported 925 new cases of the coronavirus Tuesday, the second-straight day the state has reported fewer than 1,000 daily cases amid a decline in overall testing. While the state reported fewer than 1,000 cases, the state only completed roughly 13,000 tests for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
