Port Covington developers, state officials celebrate start of vertical construction in South Baltimore

In two years, cranes, bulldozers and construction fencing could give way to glassy buildings, open green space and outdoor plazas in South Baltimore’s Port Covington neighborhood, officials said Wednesday — a timeline they said could be met even despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A slew of state and city officials, community activists and business leaders celebrated the progress of the “mini-city” at a groundbreaking event that featured both in-person and recorded remarks. The second phase of building and construction includes more than 1 million square feet of development and features retail and office space, residential units, parks and parking spaces.
