  • Julián Curo-Churata lived in Laurel for about 17 years before he was detained in June by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
  • The 47-year-old originally from Peru had volunteered to leave the country on his own, but a judge denied the request Sept. 18, according to ICE. On Sept. 29, Curo-Churata died in ICE custody. He is the 37th person to die while in ICE detention in the past year, according to the agency.

Senior MONSE official backed Tyree Reynolds’ release, saying he wasn’t violent
  • A senior official with Baltimore’s Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) supported Tyree Reynolds’ request last year for a reduced prison sentence, telling a judge the agency would help him get a job, housing, and therapeutic support after his release. Reynolds had been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a 2021 shooting, with all but eight years suspended.
  • Eight days after Reynolds was released, police say he opened fire at a youth football game in West Baltimore, killing 12-year-old Khloe Ishway and wounding three other people after an argument with two men over parking.
