Poll: Majority of voters oppose data center construction anywhere in Maryland
|
- New survey also finds Gov. Wes Moore’s job approval holding steady despite anger over economic conditions.
- A majority of Maryland voters are opposed to building data centers in the state and have a dim view of artificial intelligence, which they believe will have a negative impact on society, a new poll shows.

Laurel father and husband died in ICE custody in Louisiana
|
- Julián Curo-Churata lived in Laurel for about 17 years before he was detained in June by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
- The 47-year-old originally from Peru had volunteered to leave the country on his own, but a judge denied the request Sept. 18, according to ICE. On Sept. 29, Curo-Churata died in ICE custody. He is the 37th person to die while in ICE detention in the past year, according to the agency.

Senior MONSE official backed Tyree Reynolds’ release, saying he wasn’t violent
|
- A senior official with Baltimore’s Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) supported Tyree Reynolds’ request last year for a reduced prison sentence, telling a judge the agency would help him get a job, housing, and therapeutic support after his release. Reynolds had been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a 2021 shooting, with all but eight years suspended.
- Eight days after Reynolds was released, police say he opened fire at a youth football game in West Baltimore, killing 12-year-old Khloe Ishway and wounding three other people after an argument with two men over parking.

- Republican Dan Cox said he’s asked his adult son to apologize for a purported private conversation posted to the internet.
- The Republican candidate for Maryland governor disavowed remarks purportedly made by his adult son calling Jewish people pedophiles, “scum who killed my savior Jesus” and claiming they worshiped at a “Synagogue of Satan.”
