The legislative session is over, and The Lobby’s inaugural season is in the books!
Every day this week, we’re highlighting the winners of the 2021 Maryland legislative session.
Delora Sanchez-Ifekauche, Principal at Cornerstone Government Affairs, took on the unique challenge of a virtual 2021 session with the same passion she does every other legislative session. With a solid team of professionals and a network of connections, Delora delivered wins for clients with Capital projects across the state. Read more from the Winner below:
As a firm, we have always been focused on the budget and appropriations, we knew early on that – due to the federal monies coming into the State, that this was going to be a banner year for Capital projects in particular. By virtue of our DC office we are able to have a ‘Washington reach’ with instant updates of what was rapidly being rolled out as the new Biden Administration took office and quickly began addressing pandemic relief. In some cases, we were getting information faster than the Legislature and Governor. That was very helpful to us as we advocated for our clients both here and in Washington. We therefore were able to push clients’ requests to the front of the line for funding both from the Governor and added by the Legislature. Of note we were able to secure Significant Capital Construction funding for a whole variety of projects at Historic St. Mary’s City, St. Mary’s College and Parks and Recreational Space projects. Another win was the Gaming Tax Adjustment to permanency for Rocky Gap Casino (HB532).
The Wins:
✅ Make the Gaming Tax Adjustment permanent
✅ Secure significant Capital construction funding
✅ Deliver client wins across the state
