Hospitals across Maryland are scrambling to conserve IV fluids after damage from Hurricane Helene last month halted production at the country’s leading manufacturer and triggered a national shortage — which could worsen as Hurricane Milton drenches Florida this week. Baxter International shut down its plant in Marion, N.C., about 35 miles east of Asheville, after it experienced severe flooding and a nearby bridge collapsed.

Alsobrooks is holding a lead of nine percentage points over Republican Larry Hogan in a poll released Wednesday — the day before the contest’s lone debate. Alsobrooks is ahead of Hogan 48 percent to 39 percent among likely voters in a poll from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County’s Institute of Politics, with just 1 in 5 voters saying they would be willing to change their minds before Election Day.

The Baltimore Ravens are now selling memberships to three new premium clubs at M&T Bank Stadium, giving the team’s more affluent fans some new places to spend time before and after games. The Ravens on Tuesday started sales for memberships to the all-inclusive clubs: The Trust Club, The Raven and The Champions Club. The new premium areas are part of the $430 million in renovations to bring M&T Bank Stadium up to the same level as other NFL stadiums when it comes to premium offerings.

Maryland has received federal funding to help start a pilot program on the Eastern Shore in which drones will deliver medical packages to people living in areas where a lack of transportation has hindered health care access, the governor’s office said Tuesday. The state Department of Planning program will include drone deliveries between Crisfield and Smith Island, home to several hundred residents who can only reach the mainland by using commercial boat services, according to the governor’s office.

The Maryland Science Center plans at least $10 million in upgrades over the next two years, the biggest makeover in two decades for the Inner Harbor’s oldest attraction. The interactive museum is looking to add new exhibits, including one on space exploration, and to enhance existing ones, including refreshing technology in its popular dinosaur display.

Baltimore Gas & Electric busted its budget and is seeking a rate adjustment to recoup the cash. The company is asking the Public Service Commission to pass on that cost to customers. In any rate case, the utility has to show that the money was spent wisely — if they can’t, the Public Service Commission can reject the recovery of the amount sought.

The D.C. region continues to answer the call for hurricane help in the South. In Montgomery County, a specialized rescue team known as Maryland Task Force 1 is sending a new 45-member team to North Carolina to relieve the first team sent to help with the recovery from Hurricane Helene. The team will take over those who have been helping check on people and bring in supplies, but Montgomery County Fire and EMS Chief Corey Smedley said this outgoing group could end their deployment in Florida, depending on how much damage Hurricane Milton does.
