The @SenateGOP blocked a domestic terrorism bill. Time and time again they are choosing violence over the safety of our citizens.
BREAKING: Senate Republicans blocked a domestic terrorism bill that would have opened debate on gun measures after the deadly Texas school shooting. http://apne.ws/OnBCYHb
For two years since George Floyd was murdered, @SenateGOP have refused to allow debate and consideration of needed police reform and public safety measures. @POTUS is taking the right steps to restore public trust in law enforcement.
Mass shootings are a regular occurrence in our country.
The United States is an outlier in the number of guns that we have and in the number of shootings.
Inaction is not an option. It will cost lives.
Commonsense gun laws that can save lives:
• Pass the Background Check Expansion Act.
• Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
• Keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t be able to buy them.
The legislation proposed will:
• Establish a Commission to Reform and Modernize the State Department, including personnel-related matters.
• Modernize training and professional development for State Department personnel.
This report raises questions of apparent ethics violations over many years, undermining the integrity of promotions for diplomats at the @StateDept. These concerns make it more urgent for Congress to swiftly pass my and @SenatorHagerty's bipartisan legislation.
SCOOP: The @StateDept IG’s office is raising questions about why some State staffers’ friends, relatives were put on promotion boards. The watchdog also alleges that many of the board members, who earn thousands of dollars, weren’t qualified. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/05/25/state-department-inspector-general-report-promotions-00035038
Very warm welcome from our American Senate colleagues. Useful and helpful discussions to improve trade and other issues in our relationship.
In addition to passing reasonable gun safety laws, the Senate must confirm Steve Dettelbach as the next Director of ATF. ATF is responsible for enforcing our nation’s gun laws but has not had a Senate-confirmed director for 7+ years.
Steve Dettelbach has wide support from law enforcement, and would provide Senate-confirmed leadership for the ATF for the first time in seven years.
I just signed an Executive Order that delivers the most significant police reform in decades. It will increase accountability, ban chokeholds, restrict no-knock entries, and more for federal law enforcement officers — and it incentivizes state and local officers to do the same.
