Crosby named Community Partner of the Year by Anne Arundel County Food Bank

In recognition of its support of local food insecurity relief efforts, Annapolis-based Crosby Marketing Communications Wednesday was named the 2023 Community Partner of the Year by the Anne Arundel County Food Bank (AACFB). Crosby President and CEO Raymond Crosby accepted the award at the food bank’s recent Feeding Hope event.

Developer wins approval to build residential instead of office in Germantown

Underscoring the anemic demand for new commercial space across the D.C. region, the Montgomery County Planning Board has unanimously approved a developer’s proposal to build multifamily residences instead of previously envisioned offices near I-270 in Germantown. Century Development Services LLC owns nearly 16 vacant acres just southwest of the interchange with Ridge Road, where it’s planning to build a piece of a larger mixed-use development dubbed Century in Germantown.

Maryland cannabis sales eclipse $84M in first month of recreational market

Cannabis sales in Maryland continued to grow during the first month of the recreational market, proving that customers who rushed to dispensaries on July 1 are still drawn to the nascent industry. Maryland dispensaries saw $84 million in cannabis sales in July, which included $10.4 million during the first week after recreational cannabis was legalized, according to the Maryland Cannabis Administration.

Under Armour launches brand’s first-ever customer loyalty program under new CEO

Under Armour launched a U.S. customer loyalty program Tuesday, a first-of-its kind for the brand and a key initiative of new CEO Stephanie Linnartz. Through UA Rewards, consumers can earn points through online and in-store purchases, product reviews and UA MapMyRun challenges that can be redeemed for $5 off their next purchase.

Howard County looking for new members for Equal Business Opportunity Commission

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking applicants to serve on the Equal Business Opportunity Commission, specifically applicants who are either minority business owners, women business owners or business owners with a disability. The deadline to apply is Aug. 18. Comprised of 10 members, the commission assists the efforts of the county in procuring goods and services from minority business enterprises, women-owned business enterprises and disabled-owned business enterprises pursuant to the County’s Equal Business Opportunity Program.

 

Marriott raises revenue 2023 revenue outlook on strength of international travel

Marriott International Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) reported strong earnings growth in the second quarter and has raised its revenue outlook for the full year as strong travel demand in China and other international markets has more than made up for less-robust growth in the U.S. The Bethesda hospitality giant posted revenue per room of $132.17 for the second quarter, up 10.7% from the same period last year and 6.45% from second quarter of 2019.

Gaithersburg’s Emergent BioSolutions lands large federal contract to boost development of Ebola drug

Gaithersburg’s Emergent BioSolutions Inc. (NYSE: EBS) has landed a long-term contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources to scale up manufacturing of a drug designed to treat Ebola. The drug, a monoclonal antibody known as Ebanga, was developed by Miami’s Ridgeback Biotherapeutics and approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of Ebola in December 2020.

Teamsters say Yellow Corp. is ceasing operations, filing for bankruptcy

Troubled trucking company Yellow Corp. is shutting down and headed for a bankruptcy, the Teamsters said Monday. An official bankruptcy filing is expected any day for Yellow, after years of financial struggles and growing debt. Prince George’s retail center sells for $70 million four years after retail center’s last trade

Largo Town Center has sold for $70 million, a nearly 60% increase from what the same suburban Maryland retail center sold for a little more than four years ago. An affiliate of Bethesda’s Finmarc Management Inc. sold the 280,000-square-foot center at 950 Largo Center Drive to KPI Commercial LLC, per Finmarc. The property, assessed at about $35 million, is fully leased to a mix of tenants including Burlington, Foot Locker and Urban Air Adventure Park.

Bethesda’s EagleBank to eliminate key executive commercial banking position

Just days after Eagle Bancorp Inc. (NASDAQ: EBGN), the parent company of Bethesda’s EagleBank, unveiled a series of layoffs and cost-cutting measures, it announced Tony Marquez, one of its top executives, is also being terminated after a 12-year run at the bank. Marquez, Eagle’s senior executive vice president and president of commercial banking, was notified Monday that he was being terminated “without cause,” effective Aug. 31, “due to a position elimination,” the company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Monday afternoon. Eagle said it would not replace Marquez or refill his position.
