Routespring, a Bethesda AI-powered business travel management company, is looking to go up against the major travel agencies, now boosted by a $500,000 investment from the Maryland Technology Development Corp. (TEDCO). Founded by CEO Tarun Upaday and CTO Hitesh Sharma, Routespring uses a proprietary AI algorithm to determine such factors as the length, price and risk in travel routes for companies whose workers must travel for their job, like pilots, travel nurses, truck drivers and cruise ship employees.

A California cannabis brand is expanding into Maryland with the opening of its first cannabis dispensary in Baltimore later this week. Cookies will open a location at 35 E Cross St. in Federal Hill on Saturday, May 27. The dispensary will be open for medical patients, but the company plans to transition to the recreational market, which will go live in Maryland on July 1.

Birmingham, Alabama’s Encompass Health Corp. (NYSE: EHC) is getting ready to open a rehabilitation hospital in Bowie, in a bid to fill a gap in care for Prince George’s County patients. Encompass, which owns and operates rehab hospitals across U.S., said Wednesday the 60-bed inpatient facility is on track to start seeing patients in June.
