MiraHeart, a student startup team from Johns Hopkins University working to prevent the progression of pediatric heart failure, finished third at the 2023 Heartland Challenge. MiraHeart is a novel, noninvasive monitoring technology for central venous pressure (CVP), which is critical for adjusting heart failure medications and treatments. MiraHeart can be implemented at home, removing required trips to a clinical setting for monitoring CVP in children.

New owners of Ocean City’s Fontainebleau Resort are getting ready to reopen the nearly 50-year-old oceanfront landmark as the Ashore Resort & Beach Club — complete with upscale amenities and suites. It’s all part of a new trend where upscale lodging options are taking hold in the beach town famous for visitors having to shell out $300 a night for a scraggly room.

Complaints have spiked against gas and electric suppliers in Maryland’s competitive energy marketplace, prompting heavy scrutiny in recent weeks from regulators looking to root out deceptive tactics. A job fair hosted by the Baltimore City Department of Public Works drew hundreds to the Chick Webb Recreation Center in the Dunbar-Broadway neighborhood Saturday. Great Wolf Lodge Maryland’s opening has been pushed up to June 29. Progress on the new resort coming to Perryville is moving swiftly. It was previously scheduled to open in August, then during a construction tour in February, the company announced it would open on July 15. Families are now able to book stays at the lodge for June 29 and beyond, including the Fourth of July weekend, according to Mackenzie Fox, a spokesperson for Great Wolf Lodge.

Another Baltimore developer has moved into the Florida market. St. John Properties said Thursday its latest national expansion will be into Central Florida. The Woodlawn-based firm has opened an office in Industrious, a coworking facility in downtown Tampa, and is eyeing projects in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco and Polk counties.
