New firm hired to lease Camden Yards warehouse

A new firm is taking a crack at leasing one of Baltimore’s most unique office buildings. The Maryland Stadium Authority selected Rockville-based Scheer Partners to take the lead on leasing out the Warehouse at Camden Yards. Scheer replaces national real estate brokerage firm Cushman & Wakefield as the leasing agent for the historic 430,000-square-foot building.

Gas prices are falling; experts point to mild demand ahead of summer travel

Gas prices are once again on the decline across the U.S., bringing some relief to drivers now paying a little less to fill up their tanks. The national average for gas prices on Monday stood around $3.44, according to AAA. That’s down about 9 cents from a week ago — marking the largest one-week drop recorded by the motor club so far in 2024. Monday’s average was also more than 19 cents less than it was a month ago and over 14 cents below the level seen this time last year.

Easton chef takes home Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic at 2024 James Beard awards

A Maryland chef took home a prestigious James Beard award, it was announced Monday at the Lyric Opera in Chicago. Harley Peet, executive chef at Bas Rouge in Easton, took home the award for “Best Chef” in the Mid-Atlantic, a region that spans Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Ellicott City senior living community plans $78M expansion

A senior living community in Ellicott City is launching a major expansion with over 100,000 square feet of new construction. The multi-part project will add three new buildings to Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant and renovate its health care facility. Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland CEO Jeff Branch said the changes will make the community more appealing to younger seniors and help the facility keep pace with customers who are demanding more luxury amenities from senior living communities.

Orioles, T. Rowe Price sponsorship agreement to include new uniform patch

The Baltimore Orioles and T. Rowe Price on Monday announced a sponsorship agreement for the Baltimore-based global investment management firm to become the exclusive investment and wealth management sponsor of the baseball club. The centerpiece of the deal is a T. Rowe Price-branded uniform patch that will adorn the sleeve of Orioles players’ jerseys for all regular season and postseason games, beginning Tuesday when the Orioles host the Atlanta Braves at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Under Armour bets $25M on Kevin Plank to boost stock price

Under Armour is placing a $25 million bet on Kevin Plank. The Baltimore company’s CEO has four years to double Under Armour’s stock price, and if he can do that, he will earn more than $25 million in stock compensation. Plank, who recently returned to the company’s top job, had his new compensation plan outlined in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that details the company’s financial aspirations.

Baltimore Sun staffers protest after new owners begin publishing Fox45 stories in the newspaper

Since the purchase five months ago of the Baltimore Sun by conservative broadcast mogul David D. Smith, staffers have been watching for changes, bristling at some (the rightward tilt of the op-ed pages) and eye-rolling at others (the paper now carries an “Ask the Vet” column by Smith’s veterinarian daughter, Devon Smith).

America’s employers added a strong 272,000 jobs in May, accelerating from April and a sign that companies are still confident enough in the economy to keep hiring despite persistently high interest rates. Last month’s sizable job gain suggests that the economy is still growing steadily, propelled by consumer spending on travel, entertainment and other services.
