Over 50 businesses have found their way to Towson since 2020

Over 50 different businesses have found their way to Towson since the beginning of 2020, according to Nancy Hafford, Executive Director of Towson’s Chamber of Commerce. “Towson has become more of the urban environment in Baltimore County; it’s sort of like a mini downtown, but it’s a safe place to go,” Hafford said.

Maryland lawmakers approved a plan to rebuild Baltimore’s storied but antiquated Pimlico Race Course and transfer the track to state control in the waning hours of the state’s legislative session on Monday. The measure would use $400 million in state bonds to rebuild the home of the second jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes.

Baltimore company lands ‘Shark Tank’ deal with Mark Cuban

A Baltimore company won $150,000 in investment from celebrity investors Mark Cuban and Emma Grede on ABC’s popular “Shark Tank” show. Dawn Myers, the CEO of Richualist, won over the panel with a presentation on Friday about her hair care device, the Mint. After years of research and development, she plans to use the investment to bring the product to a broader market, targeting Black customers with highly textured hair.

Kim Lane, executive director of Pigtown Main Street, said the organization isn’t establishing a position about a proposed multi-use soccer stadium because there hasn’t been enough information shared about the project. She questions the “public process” involved in identifying Carroll Park as one of two sites the Maryland Stadium Authority and D.C. United are considering in Baltimore to build a 7,500-seat stadium.

The Washington County Department of Business and Economic Development is seeking input on how the recent collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge may have impacted businesses in the community. Greater Baltimore’s wealthiest resident in 2023 moved to Florida, and now his cousin and business partner is the region’s richest man. Billionaire Jim Davis of Cockeysville, 64, is worth $4.4 billion, according to Forbes’ 2024 World’s Billionaires List. At No. 712 on the list, that leaves Davis as the richest man in Greater Baltimore after his cousin — Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti — moved to Hobe Sound, Florida.

Aveley Farms Coffee Roasters and Diamondback Brewing Company are joining forces on a new concept in Timonium

Two local craft beverage companies are joining forces to open an “all day and all night” concept in Timonium. Aveley Farms Coffee Roasters and Diamondback Brewing Company announced on Friday that they’re planning a venture that will be a mash-up of both: a roastery and café from Aveley and a brewery, taproom and pizza kitchen from Diamondback.

 

Army Corps of Engineers aims to restore normal access to Port of Baltimore by end of May

The Army Corps of Engineers has a tentative timeline of restoring access to the Port of Baltimore to “normal capacity” by the end of May, it said in a statement Thursday night. “Engineers are aiming to reopen the permanent, 700-foot-wide by 50-foot-deep federal navigation channel by the end of May, restoring port access to normal capacity,” according to the news release.

Hundreds of small businesses apply for federal loans after Baltimore bridge collapse

Five hundred businesses have applied for financial assistance stemming from the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge last week, the administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration announced Thursday. The SBA has deemed mid-Atlantic businesses impacted by the bridge collapse eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) of up to $2 million to help overcome temporary loss of revenue from the collapse and Port of Baltimore’s closure to most maritime traffic.
