Two city-owned sites in Baltimore to be considered for potential pro soccer stadium operated by D.C. United

If Baltimore ever does add an outdoor pro soccer team, the club might make their home a couple of miles south of downtown. The state’s Department of Commerce recently requested the Maryland Stadium Authority study two city-owned sites — Carroll Park and Swann Park — for a potential stadium that would hold between 7,500 and 10,000 spectators and host an MLS Next Pro team, a men’s minor league club that would feed to MLS side D.C. United.

You can play a round of golf at Camden Yards this summer

Fans will be swinging for the flags at Oriole Park at Camden Yards this summer. Upper Deck Golf is coming to the ballpark in June for a two-day event where fans will have the chance to play a round of golf around the perimeter of the stadium. The Orioles and Upper Deck Golf will offer tee times between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on June 7 and 8. California-based Upper Deck Golf is hosting similar events at more than a dozen other professional stadiums this year.

Baltimore Ravens plan ‘major expansion’ to concessions at M&T Bank Stadium

Ravens fans can expect plenty of new food and beverage options at M&T Bank Stadium soon as the team makes a “major expansion” to its food and beverage program, the team announced Monday. That expansion includes a change from its current concessionaire, Aramark. The team said it picked from several concessionaires after a monthslong decision process, but did not say who the new vendor is.

How prices are trending at BWI Airport

Air travel at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has recovered from major pandemic disturbances, and prices are starting to show it. The average one-way domestic ticket out of BWI Airport was $157.50 in the third quarter of 2023, down 3.7% from the same quarter a year earlier, according to a recent Business Journals analysis of airfare data from Cirium Inc.

Domino Sugar plans bulkhead reconstruction at Baltimore refinery

Domino Sugar plans to rebuild a bulkhead along the shoreline of its Baltimore harbor refinery, a project designed to protect against erosion and environmental contamination. Domino’s parent, American Sugar Refining Inc., outlined the project in an application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A public comment period will run through March 13.

Station North property to get $30M renovation under new owners

North Avenue Market will undergo a $30 million renovation as its new owners look to create an entertainment and cultural hub in Station North. North Avenue Market Development LLC acquired the building at 10 to 30 W. North Ave. for $3.25 million on Friday, the group announced Monday. The sale comes about a year and half after a combination restaurant, arcade and live music venue closed in the building and continues a resurgence for the space over the last year.

Washington County Chamber of Commerce presents 2024 business awards

Stephen Schutte, general manager of Point Broadband, was awarded the Business Person of the Year Award recently by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. More than 400 people attended the chamber’s 2024 business awards event the evening of Feb. 28 at The Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown, according to a chamber news release.

Preakness Stakes purse will increase to $2 million in 2024

The purse for the Preakness Stakes will increase to $2 million, up from $1.5 million in 2023, and it will become part of a new three-leg series with a potential bonus payout of $5 million, 1/ST Racing said Friday in a move designed to increase the appeal of Maryland’s signature race. Despite its status as the second jewel in the Triple Crown, the Preakness has struggled to draw top contenders from the Kentucky Derby in recent years because owners and trainers are increasingly reluctant to run their horses on just two weeks’ rest.

Here’s how much Ravens season ticket prices will jump this year

Ravens fans will pay significantly more to see quarterback Lamar Jackson and company try to return to the AFC Championship game next season. The Baltimore Ravens will raise season ticket prices by an average of 13% for the 2024-25 season in a move that team officials said is necessary to stay “competitive” with the rest of the league. Along with the ticket increases, the Ravens are also debuting pricing segmentation, meaning that not every ticket in the same section at M&T Bank Stadium will have the same price.

Columbia company closes $70M deal despite lawsuits

BigBear.ai completed its $70 million acquisition of a facial recognition artificial intelligence company Friday even as two lawsuits sought to block the deal. The Columbia technology firm (NYSE: BBAI) agreed to acquire Pangiam Intermediate Holdings in an all-stock deal in November. The company issued over 61 million shares of stock to Pangiam to complete the acquisition, based on a price per share of common stock of $1.34, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
