Weis Markets looks to develop former 75-80 Dragway site in Monrovia

Weis Markets, the central Pennsylvania-based grocery store chain, is looking to develop the site of the former 75-80 Dragway in Monrovia. According to state property records, the 15.45-acre former drag strip site was sold by 75-80 Properties LLC in June 2021 for $2.6 million, contingent on certain approvals. A monthly report from the the Frederick County Division of Planning and Permitting shows that Weis Markets, which has the contingent contract to purchase the site, submitted a concept plan for a 65,500-square-foot store in November 2023.

Clark’s Lodge, an American bar and grill, slated to open in Clarksburg in March

The first thing you see when you enter the lodge: a big, lifelike black bear. Then, your eyes catch on a faux fox, ski-lift benches, antlers hanging on the lights and green vines strewn throughout the space. This may sound like a rustic chalet on a snowy mountain in the woods, but it’s actually an American restaurant and bar in Clarksburg. Clark’s Lodge is projected to open in March at 12011 Snowden Farm Parkway, owner Neel Kamal recently told MoCo360. The restaurant will replace GrillMarx, which closed in June 2023.

Famed Pittsburgh sandwich shop Primanti Bros. is coming to Baltimore area

The Ravens-Steelers rivalry may never die, but a Pittsburgh-based restaurant chain is hoping Baltimore diners will overlook regional differences when it comes to sandwiches. Primanti Brothers Restaurant and Bar, the famed Pittsburgh sub shop, will open its first Baltimore-area store this spring. The 5,200-square-foot restaurant will be a short drive from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, at 996 Corporate Blvd. in Linthicum Heights, according to a representative for the company.

Hotel near BWI Airport sells for millions

A longstanding hotel near Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport recently sold for millions, changing hands for the first time in three decades. An LLC linked to Sarbahn Realty, a local hospitality group, purchased the Courtyard by Marriott Baltimore BWI Airport for $15.6 million in December, according to state property records. The hotel at 1621 W. Nursery Road is one of many hotels in the BWI Business District that caters to airport travelers.

Acrisure launches mid-Atlantic region, including Md. businesses

Global fintech company Acrisure Tuesday announced the formation of the company’s mid-Atlantic region, encompassing its businesses in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia. As with all other platforms announced in 2023, the Region will operate under the Acrisure brand. Geoffrey Goldwater will serve as managing partner for the mid-Atlantic region.

Biden administration unveils proposed changes to big banks’ overdraft fees

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Wednesday unveiled long-awaited changes to how the nation’s biggest banks structure overdraft protection plans. The independent watchdog agency said the new rule closes a loophole that for decades has exempted overdraft loans from the consumer protections required by the 1968 Truth in Lending Act. Since 2000, American consumers have paid an estimated $280 billion in bank overdraft fees, according to CFPB data.

Maryland Port Administration gets permanent director from Port Everglades

The head of Port Everglades in Florida will lead the Maryland Port Administration starting next month, the state transportation secretary announced Friday. Jonathan Daniels, director and CEO of the port in Broward County, Florida, and a 30-year veteran of port and economic development, will step in as executive director of the Maryland port Feb 5, state Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld said.

The Baltimore Sun purchased by Sinclair’s David D. Smith

The Baltimore Sun, the largest newspaper in Maryland, has been acquired in a private deal by David D. Smith, executive chairman of Hunt Valley-based television station owner Sinclair Inc. Smith said Monday that he acquired Baltimore Sun Media on Friday from investment firm Alden Global Capital, marking the first time in nearly four decades that The Sun will be in the hands of a local owner.
