@JLeighDiamond @KevinLindamood Aw! We are lucky to get to hang with you Joanna. Thanks for all that you do for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
@Milkyway20203 Taylor!!! I miss her. Super duper smart kid. How’s she doing? I loved how curious she was about everything.
@MsPingel Thanks Ms Pingel! Appreciate all that you do for our kids 🙏.
@ChamiliKaren Aw! Thanks Karen. That’s really kind of you to say. ❤️
Alright! Well done. We @hchomeless were tiny when we indexed our wages to the local cost of housing 20 years ago - and naysayers said we’d go out of business. We’ve since quadrupled in size & are stronger for it. Who else pays wages no lower than $15/hr? Who pledges to do so? https://twitter.com/openworksbmore/status/1390722635483553792
@KevinLindamood Raised ours to $15.50 when we started making face shields at the beginning of the pandemic. It can be hard for a small org like us, but when our workers win, we all do!
@KevinLindamood @hchomeless I’m all for it!
I think it is worth stating that the Hopkins decision was the result of years or organizing by unions, students, staff, legislators, + other orgs. I’m appreciative that they made this move, but worth lifting up the years of struggle by their workers to get here.
I remember when we tried to pass the $15 minimum wage. It was painful to see orgs that claim to “fight poverty,” lobby us against raising the wage. The hypocrisy was galling.
@hchomeless was one of the few that stood up for the people they represent. I will never forget that.
Sure, I’m excited about Johns Hopkins’ decision to pay wages no less than $15 an hour, but I challenge all those nonprofits working to address poverty, all those for- and non-profit businesses hiring “chief equity officers” to raise their own wage floors now. That’d be exciting.
Smart. Does anyone have any family recipes?
Just make sure you blanch (boil for 5 minutes) the cicadas before you eat them, Zeke.
This will kill any soil bacteria living inside them. #SafetyFirst https://twitter.com/Zeke_Cohen/status/1390475187984998400
