Revamped CFG Bank Arena ranks high on Billboard list of highest-grossing venues in world

With acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Lionel Richie, Janet Jackson, New Edition and Queen already rocking its venue, CFG Bank Arena seems to be striking the right chord with bands and audiences. Seven months after the unveiling of the $250 million revamped venue, it’s also receiving big, international praise. Billboard magazine announced that among venues with a capacity of less than 15,000, CFG Arena was the tenth highest-grossing venue in the world and number four in North America. In 2009, the venue ranked first in North America.

Sparrows Point Alliance launches to support economic growth in Baltimore region

Sparrows Point Alliance, a nonprofit, grassroots organization of Maryland community groups, business organizations, and labor unions, officially launched Wednesday to support the continued revitalization of Sparrows Point and specifically the completion of the proposed Sparrows Point Container Terminal project (SPCT).

Still no lease deal between Maryland and Orioles, negotiations continue

Negotiations on a stadium lease agreement between the Baltimore Orioles and the state of Maryland are still underway. Fans cheered as a surprise announcement appeared on the scoreboard at a September Thursday night game at Camden Yards. Officials “agreed to a deal that will keep the Orioles in Baltimore and at Camden Yards for at least the next 30 years,” the announcement said.

CVS Says It Will Change the Way Its Pharmacies Are Paid

CVS Health, the nation’s largest pharmacy chain with more than 9,000 locations, said on Tuesday that it planned to change the way its pharmacies are paid for the medications they dispense, in an apparent attempt to address widespread criticism from health plans and employers about high drug costs. The new model, which will begin to go into effect next year, involves a complex corner of the opaque world of drug pricing.

AstraZeneca expands Montgomery County presence with massive new lease

AstraZeneca PLC (NYSE: AZN) is doubling down on Montgomery County, adding another large facility to its already substantial footprint in suburban Maryland. The British pharmaceutical giant has inked a lease to take over a full building — 198,000 square feet — at 700 Progress Way in Gaithersburg. The property sits less than three miles north of AstraZeneca’s existing campus, a nine-story headquarters comprising 1.27 million square feet.

Downtown Baltimore gets first digital billboards in new district

At Charles and Lombard streets in downtown Baltimore, newly installed digital billboards flash images of art, ads and event promotions. The two video displays on office tower facades, unveiled Tuesday by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, are the first in a digital sign network designed to enliven the business district north of the Inner Harbor and promote area artists, businesses and events.

Ammoora in the Ritz-Carlton Residences in the Federal Hill neighborhood made the inaugural list of 25 “trendy” and recently opened restaurants by the business review website and app. Yelp announced its latest list, which includes restaurants from coast to coast, on Tuesday.

Developers unveil new website and renderings for the latest Harbor Point apartment project

Developers of Baltimore’s newest apartment project, a 500-unit development called Allied | Harbor Point, will begin preleasing in April 2024, with Kettler as the residential property manager. The development team, a joint venture of Armada Hoffler and Beatty Development Group, this week unveiled a new website and renderings for the project, which is nearing completion at 1402 Point Street. Baltimore-area startup raises $5.3M to repurpose wood meant for the landfill

A Baltimore County startup has raised $5.3 million to use wood normally destined for the landfill to create tables, floors and other construction products. Cambium Carbon takes wood from trees that fall down during a storm or are cut down at construction sites and repurposes them for new uses. CEO Ben Christensen plans to use the latest round of funding led by MaC Venture Capital to add new products, launch a nationwide expansion and enhance the software side of the business.
