Conair, Gov. Moore celebrate opening of largest distribution center in Maryland

Dozens of business and government officials, including Gov. Wes Moore, celebrated the grand opening Friday of the Conair distribution center along Downsville Pike — a distribution center Conair officials said they believe is the largest in the state. Conair President and CEO Kristie Juster said “wow,” as she shared a statistic she learned Friday — that at more than 2.1 million square feet, every NFL team plus two practice fields would fit in the facility.

 

Washington County Career Expo draws 787

The Washington County Career Expo at Hagerstown Community College hosted 1,100 participants on Wednesday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Athletic, Recreation and Community Center (ARCC) on the HCC campus. The event included 170 organizations, with 342 representatives and 787 attendees. Participants and employers networked about job opportunities, resources and pathways to employment in Washington County.

Atlas plans chophouse, tequila bar to replace Pusser’s in Annapolis

Two new restaurants will fill the rum-soaked void left by Pusser’s Caribbean Grille in Annapolis after it closes this fall. A tequila bar called Armada and an Italian chophouse, Marmo, will replace Pusser’s, a destination on the Annapolis waterfront that’s slated to shut down in November after three decades in business.

A big hurdle standing in the way of a controversial data center development in southern Frederick County was swept away Thursday. Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed a bill exempting data centers from existing regulations on the fleet of massive diesel generators needed for backup power.
